Is this the 2016 M1?

From - Motegi mysteries - MotoGP - Motor Sport Magazine

"Braking and corner entry are now hugely important in MotoGP, so it was no surprise to see the layout of Yamaha's 2016 YZR0-M1 prototype ridden at Motegi by wild card Katsuyuki Nakasuga. In its search for better braking balance, Yamaha has a fuel tank that's about three feet long. The tank extends all the way from the rear shock into the seat hump, with the filler cap mounted in the hump; in other words shifting the fuel load as far back as possible."

Check the location of the fuel filler cap on Nakasuga's bike versus that on the 2015 M1

I wonder if this is being done in response to the Michelin front tire not being like the Bridgestone where you can ride the shit out of it.

Brake balance is one benefit, but so too is taking unnecessary weight off of the front tire under heavy braking.

That is the rumour accompanying the post to the article where I found it.

It does seem very plausible as well

Assuming the characteristics of the Michelin front as it exists now does not change, I'm getting the feeling that 2016 is going to favor the Yamaha riders. I don't see MM being able to deal with the change at all. It might actually benefit Pedrosa though.

If the fuel tank is that far back, is it safe? We've seen numerous accidents with the whole rear seat assembly being smashed to shreds...

As I understand it 22, that is just the filler with the tank being more under the seat area but that is or was just rumour, no confirmation

Why not use the frame as a tank?

Bitch to get the fuel pump to work. Tank in frame only really works in underbones. And even then only when you fill up all the time. Remember, these guys are like us at a track. Every drop counts
