Jorge Lorenzo’s crew chief enters secrecy debate

Jorge Lorenzo’s factory Yamaha crew chief Ramon Forcada has stepped into the debate about the ban on information sharing between the Spaniard and team-mate Valentino Rossi in 2010.

Yamaha confirmed earlier this month at the opening test in Sepang that information would no longer be exchanged between reigning world champion Rossi and 2009 MotoGP runner-up Lorenzo.

The issue of information sharing between the two has always been a controversial subject, but Rossi insisted that the new policy would allow Lorenzo the opportunity to have more input into development of the factory YZR-M1 machine in the future.

But Forcada said only time would tell whether the everyman for himself policy would work as the new season fast approaches.

He said: “For the development of the bike it is not so good. When we were running with Michelin and Valentino with Bridgestone it was an obligation to split the data. But now it makes no sense and it is a step back in my opinion.

"We will continue making our job and trying to improve in our own way. At the end of the season we will know if the decision of Yamaha was good or not.”

ImO this is getting blown out of proportion - the knowledge that Rossi will not be sharing will be mostly on set up at any given race. Input from Rossi to Yamaha around bike development will go into the bike within at the most 2 races (assuming it's good input and stands up to testing). If Lorenzo wants to be WC he will need to do his own learning. Nobody saw Doohan passing on help to Criville or Okada oh and not to Rossi either. The competition is to be World Champion Rider - the Team Championship comes second - at best.

As I recall they did give mick's settings to other honda riders, certainly early on and still I think when he was contending with alex criville; as I also recall this did not amuse mick overly.

I don't disagree with what you say about lorenzo otherwise, certainly at the start of the season, but if someone else becomes the major contender in a tight title race this could possibly backfire in terms of jorge's devotion to the overall cause, although whether he would ever now ride as a number 2 rider may also be in question. As I have said previously I believe yamaha can progress entirely adequately with rossi's development input alone, or possibly with some help from colin.

We will see how Rossi and Jorge do separately. It should separate the men from the boys.

It is funny really for someone of Jorge's standard and talent to not relish the idea of an independent team that will think for itself. Neither is he a rookie anymore nor mediocre for him or his team to lean on the other garage. Ordinarily, I would expect Jorge to be a happier man with this wall, and his team manager's comments is not helping; this year should show if he does indeed have the aptitude to develop a bike after all and if we were wrong judging him..
