McCoy back in MotoGP with FB Corse

By Michael Guy -

Garry McCoy will make a sensational return to the Grand Prix paddock where he made his name after signing a two-year deal to ride for FB Corse in MotoGP.

MCN can confirm that the 37 year old Australian signed a contract at the teams head quarters in Italy on Saturday after postponing a planned trip back to Australia.

The move will see the three time 500GP winner back on track alongside former rivals including Valentino Rossi and Loris Capirossi.

McCoy last rode in MotoGP for The Illmor squad in 2006 before taking a year off in 2007 and then making his World Supersport debut for Triumph in 2008. In 2009 he secured two WSS podiums racing for the BE1 Triumph team.

Speaking exclusively to MCN after returning to his Andorran home today, McCoy said: “After going from not having a ride to being back in MotoGP, it’s a bit of a shock. Even when I was in the WSB paddock, part of me thought that I would always get another shot in the GP paddock, but I have to admit that I thought it would be in Moto2, not MotoGP.

“I started talking to the team seriously last week after it was confirmed that John (Hopkins) wasn’t going to ride for them. I wanted a two-year deal and the team agreed with me. When you’re starting with an all new bike, one year is never enough and I didn’t want to be in a position where we got it somewhere close and then I wasn’t on it the following season.”

McCoy is hoping to get his first ride on the new 800cc triple at the end of February in Europe where the bike will have to be checked by series organisers Dorna before it is allowed to race.

For the full story on McCoy’s MotoGP return see MCN out Wednesday 3rd February.

Sounds like ilmor again unfortunately.

I still treasure the memory of garry in his prime, and his unbelievable wins on equipment which as arrabbiata says was basically brought to the track in a car boot.

I agree Garry was good in his day...but i feel like theres better talent out there. However, he is an experienced guy so that is going to help the new team adjust to motogp
Hope it works out for him

Agreed!

I would say that if Political influence affects the Organization Directors into ‘adapting’ rules to benefit specific Countries, it would also imply some sort of ‘cheaters’… But then again it’s just me! And it has happen a lot lately!

Anyway, here we go to the never ending reasons on why Rossi is in the Top of the List and with the ‘Most’ broken Records of all Times (Not all… yet).

go gazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

the king of slide.

unfortunately will only add to the numbers without ever being competitive.

i was watching an old video of the 2000 south african gp only yesterday, when he had his memorable win, coming from as low as around 12th and 8 secs behind mid-race, to storm through the field to win.
magic!
interestingly, rossi crashes mid race when mid-pack and no real pressure , showing that future champs start fast and crash and later remain fast, crash very little and win world titles ; a path followed by stoner and will probably be followed by lorenzo.

I used to think he was too, but you know I think Stoner edges him out. The difference is Stoner does it with pure speed. PI 09 was a well video'd example.

Good to see Mcoy back, he is very marketable for Dorna I always wondered why Hopper got the ride over him but meh
