He must have done something pretty bad, for they are saying his Moto2 contract with the team for 2017 is in doubt too.:

Romano Fenati's slim championship hopes appear to have vanished after the Sky VR46 squad sensationally suspended him from the team on the eve of the Austrian Grand Prix, meaning he will not take part in the Moto3 encounter on Sunday.

The Italian had qualified eleventh for the 23-lap affair but apparently behaved in an inappropriate manner in the afternoon, with initial rumours suggesting he has fallen out with members of his crew.

A very short statement from the team read, “Following repeated behavior not in line with the disciplinary rules of a Team - the rider Romano Fenati has been suspended. He will not be on the starting grid of the Austrian Grand Prix.”

The decision suggests Sky VR46 had little faith in Fenati overturning the current championship deficit of 66 points to Brad Binder. Considering his experience, his performances in 2016 have been slightly disappointing, but he is nevertheless the second best placed KTM in the series.

The 20-year old performed dismally in the previous race in Germany, finishing well out of the points in 18th, an astonishing 74 seconds back of the race winner. In the two outings before, he narrowly missed out on podium finishes despite holding a competitive position throughout the race.

The team's statement does not indicate whether the suspension is indefinite. Fenati has a deal in place to step up to Moto2 in 2017 with the Sky VR46 team, a move that is now in serious doubt.

read on another forum that it was because he was abusive and disrespectful to his crew/engineers. but take that with a grain of salt until more details come out.

Fenati suspended from VR46
Moto3™ title contender sits Austria out, future unknown
Tags Moto3, 2016, NEROGIARDINI MOTORRAD GRAND PRIX VON ÖSTERREICH, Romano Fenati, SKY Racing Team VR46
Romano Fenati has been suspended from Sky Racing Team VR46 ahead of race day at the Austrian GP, for behaviour not in line with the disciplinary rules of a team. The Italian, who currently sits third in the Moto3™ world championship standings behind leader Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and P2 man Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia 0,0), will not line up on the grid for Sunday’s race.

The Italian’s suspension is currently in place for the Austrian GP, with further discussions about Fenati’s future set to take place after the NeroGiardini Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich.

Pablo Nieto, Team Manager of Sky Racing Team VR46: "Taking out a rider from the team is never good news but there are rules, norms within the team and he didn't comply with it. We won't get into specifics, but we decided to make this point as a disciplinary measure. For now the suspension is only for Austria, but we have to look further into it. We just took this decision yesterday and we have to further assess the situation but it looks that could be for all season. At this stage, it's too early to talk about a potential replacement."

Reading Rossi's statement, I'd say he's out of the team:

Quote:
"Yes, you know for us is a great shame. We are not happy because is like that you lose a battle. Also because Fenati is a rider with great talent and we want to try to bet on him for the future, also for Moto2 next year, but unfortunately we have to give up."
That Moto2 ride in 2017 is gone too.

And as much sh*t as we often give VR, to me here he shows leadership by making the decision and then by his public statements in support of the decision

While we will likely never know the truth or full story, it is not often that we see riders of high profile sacked.

Of interest now will be whether the fact that he has been sacked from a Rossi led and funded team will impact his future employment chances, and not in a Rossi veto way but moreso in a 'if he pissed VR off that much then he may be a total prick' way

I gotta think if a competitive rider pissed off a team enough to fuck him off mid season then he has to be a massive cunt.

Things like this can be good for a young prick who thinks he has the world by the balls. He will get another chance with someone with the understanding that this is it, one more time and you are done. Could be a defining moment in a young mans life. Which way he decides to run is up to him. GP life or smart ass parts dude at the local bike shop, your choice.
