Not meaning to put to simplistic a view on it AntG, but maybe they are following the DORNA model because they have a lack of other ideas.

Hell, as you say, use some of the smaller names as they will likely become bigger names, push the international competitors, and so forth

I genuinely have NFI but am sick to death of organisations needing to develop a good guy/bad guy rivalry

A full on board lap with Peter Hickman - multiple camera angles and very high definition - well worth the 20 minutes

The TT sells itself it doesn't need the MotoGP style grudge matches.

Totally agree, but sadly I wonder if the people doing the selling (publicity) realise that not all sports need grudges between riders as some sports are able to be sold on the spectacle ............

Absolutely agree with this. Obviously in part due to Tony, Michael has never missed a TT since he was three. It'd be interesting to know how many he has contested. He was saying after that in order to be competitive today, you have to remove all margins of safety - ride it short circuit style and press the entire lap. If you are cautious, you are nowhere.

He's done over 60 TT races since 1994 although he took a break between 2000 and 2007.

Bit of trivia about Michael Rutter here, he is the last person to race in the TT and the premier class of motorcycle racing(full time as McGuinness wildcarded in 2000) in the same year(1999)
