So does that mean they will change the name? The namesake "Dakar" is in Africa.

Personally, I think they should have kept it in Africa. Isn't this a race of attrition? How about avoiding the suicide bombers as part of the obstacle course. Its not like people don't die in the fucking race every year.

Possibly not. I still think of it as the Paris-Dakar as it was from 1978 to 1991.

Since then it has not started in Paris except for 1994 and 2001, and it has not finished in Dakar in 1992 (Paris-Cape Town), 1994 (Paris-Dakar-Paris), 2000 (Dakar-Cairo) and 2003 (Marseilles-Sharm el Sheikh). Despite this it has still been known as the Dakar.
