<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (memento @ Jan 8 2007, 03:53 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Dakar has started, but I don't see it's topic here.

For me this is one of the most impotrant (and fascinating) events in motosport.

Problem is that I can only watch 30 minutes on Eurosport every day. I want more!!!

We use to get coverage on Speed channel but not any more. Speed channel has completely digressed. I canít stand watching it now, all they have are these wannabe "pimp my ride" shows and auctions crap. The Dakar is awesome. Its really a true test of will, man and machine against the elements.

It seems that almost every year somebody dies. Thatís rather tragic. I hope he doesnít have a family that heís leaving behind. He died doing what he loved, thatís for sure. (but its usually more tragic for those left behind).

The Dakar is like the TT, it has no respect for who it takes, as often as not it's one of the top guys.

Doesnt matter who it was, it'd another life lost.

RIP Elmer

Here, in Serbia, none of the media (TV, newspapers...) are paying any attention on Dakar (other motosports as well, except F1). That makes me angry.
Only specialized TV I can watch here is Motors TV. It's OK, nothing about Dakar though. It's out of topic, but I must mention great live coverage on 24 hours of Le Mans (more than 48 hours of live programme, with good commentary) they had last year.

Back to topic. I can't explain how much I admire all competitors (especially riders, it's toughest for them, although trucks look scary too) and it breaks my heart when somebody gets hurt or die. Last year two african kids died when hit by car and assistance vehicle. That really hit me.

My box isn't working!! So I can't watch Eurosport, only the original 5 blasted channels! Someone tape it and send it to my nearest bin and i'll collect!

I haven't been able to watch it much this year but caught some of the highlights yesterday. Coma is so incredibly smooth, he makes it look effortless its as if he is floating above the desert by a few inches rather than riding it.
