Donington Park's hopes of staging next year's British Grand Prix appear to have finally collapsed.

Nine days ago circuit chiefs issued a last-ditch plea to potential investors to help raise the money required to stage the race, due to be held on July 11.

Donington Holdings PLC, the parent company of Donington Ventures Leisure Limited run by CEO Simon Gillett, said they were looking to secure £135 million through the issue of high-yield bonds.

But according to reports, it has been suggested the bond issue has now been withdrawn due to lack of interest from the world's major financial institutions.

The news comes ahead of the last and final deadline imposed by Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone, who found Gillett in breach of contract early last week, which is due to expire tomorrow.

As per clauses in the 17-year deal agreed between the two men in July of last year, Gillett was told he had until Saturday 24 Oct to find the money needed to redevelop the circuit, or lose the grand prix.

Time to 'disinter' my 'Donington Dug Up' thread!

Donington is the shanty town of motorsport. Amuses me, so many on here abroad who list it as their favorite circuit, which says to me they've never experienced the 'warzone' first hand - last time I was there it was reminiscent of the Western Front. I was grateful to be eventually 'evacuated' by Rog and Bonnie. The Esses to Goddards destroys the flow of the racing. I was glad to see it go, but very disappointed to learn that the proposed changes will not take place. Not surprised - Gillett is as full of shite as Nick Griffin!!

Siverstone is not the spiritual home of biking - as Donington is, I concede that, and it doesn't have the spectator value of Doni either - but i guarantee that Siverstone will Phillip Island style flowing racing - albeit without the elevation change....AND... Woodcote is back to it's former glory - silly chicanery removed.

Gilllet should be buried alive infield in a shallow grave so that he can turn in it when Silverstone hosts both GP's next year

Serves donnington right for selling out to F1.

They wouldnt have had to raise a quarter as much to improve facilites for fans, and kept the track the home of biking.

I love the place - but fans get treated like shit.

Long live Silverstone I say!
